K9 UNIT

Our K-9 Cojak is a New York State certified police dog. In order to maintain

his certification he must train on a continual basis. Officer Ashworth and K9 Cojak certify with the Eastern Police Canine Association and the United States Police Canine Association on a yearly basis. They also train each month with other local  K-9 units.

The Village of Wappingers Falls Police K-9 Unit has an excellent working relationship with area police agencies and is often called to assist these agencies as the need arises. The unit has been very successful in its detection of crime and apprehension of criminals. The unit has had success in locating fleeing suspects within the village and when assisting other local agencies, including the Town of Poughkeepsie, the City of Poughkeepsie and the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office.
